Editel Chicago Director of Digital Production

I was hired to help design and operate the first component digital (D1) edit suite in Chicago (and one of the first ten worldwide). This suite featured a Grass Valley Group Kadenza switcher, Abekas A64 DDR, Accom Axial 2020 with RAVE, RTD disks. Was involved with Alpha/Beta testing on the Axial editor. When I left I was operating Flame in a digital production environment consisting of: Silicon Graphics computers running Discreet Logic Flame, Ultimatte, Cinefusion, Matador, Elastic Reality. The business consisted primarily of national commercials. Work included commercials for McDonald's, Kellogg's, Kraft and General Mills.

Edited animatics, commercials, animatics and graphic projects. Clients included: NBC, Turner Broadcasting, Harpo Productions, Kingworld, DDB Needham, Lintas, J. Walter Thompson, Y & R, McCann Erickson, Grey Advertising, DMB & B, FCB/Leber Katz, and Ogilvy & Mather.

I was responsible for management and operation of the Post Production Department, as well as editing for commercial & industrial clients. Primary emphasis on graphics, animation and special effects. Also very involved in equipment purchase decisions, as well as facility and systems design. We were among the first ten facilities in the US to install Quantel Paintbox, Abekas A62, and Quantel Mirage.
WLWT (Cincinnati) NBC Executive Producer
March 1982 - January 1985
Began as weekend news director, moved into producing & directing special projects. Supervised the production and set-up departments. Involved in capital budget planning to determine equipment purchases. Helped setup the city's first electronic news graphics department. Was awarded two regional emmy awards for electronic graphics.
WCET (Cincinnati) PBS Senior Producer/Director
November 1972 - March 1982
Started as a member of the floor crew, serving in every crew position for both studio and remote productions. In 1977 I was promoted to Producer/Director, responsible for generating program ideas, supervising crews, formulating and managing budgets. Created and directed programming in all areas, specializing in entertainment and instructional programs. Produced and Directed a series called Rock Around the Block featuring local bands.
